Book Update #3

·

Despite falling off on these blog posts, I did not fall off on my writing schedule. It’s an amazing feeling to be sitting here on December 1, and be able to say I wrote every single day last month.

My minimum requirement was one hour every day. A few times, I barely scraped by that, and felt like the work wasn’t flowing out naturally. But surprisingly, most of the time, the hour flew by and I quickly came up on the two hour mark without realizing it.

I also hit a couple huge milestones since the last update. Somewhere around November 20 I hit 100 pages! And now, as of last night, I’m at a comfortable 156. The longest story I’d ever written before this was probably…30? Maybe 40 pages. So I’m in unexplored territory at this point.

But as I mentioned in my last post, I am loving this process. I’m just hammering away, listening to classical music or ambient soundtracks, discovering this world I’m creating. It has made me genuinely proud of myself for sticking with something and pushing on, despite not always wanting to. No matter what happens with this project in the end, the mere process of working on it has brought me joy and meaning.

I’ve still got a ways to go, though, and I’m trying not to get ahead of myself. It’s easy for my mind to spiral into ambitions or criticisms. For now, I’m just going to keep writing every day, focusing on the small section ahead and nothing else. If we get there, we get there.

I can’t say these updates are going to be frequent, but I’d like to continue them as a sort of log of this whole thing. Maybe one day they will be framed next to a NYT best seller. Shut up, Ego.
